Roman Imperial Maximianus
The Emperor Maximianus, also known as Diocletian, was a Roman emperor who ruled from 286 to 310 AD. The Antoninianus, a type of coin, was minted in Antioch, a Greek city that was founded in 300 BC and became the regional capital of both the Roman and Byzantine Empires. On the obverse side of the coin, there is a portrait of the emperor with a radiate crown and draped and cuirassed bust, facing to the right. On the reverse, the god Jupiter is shown facing to the right, holding a globe and scepter, while the hero Hercules stands to the left, holding a victory globe, club, and lionskin. This coin is in extremely fine condition, with all details visible, and has a pendant weight of 3.29 grams in 18k gold.
